SEASON REVIEW: SEPTEMBER 2005

The second part of our season review takes us back to the formative months of the campaign as we look back to August, September and October.

September 2005

Bill Power opened the month by reassuring fans that everything was hunky dory, he hadn’t been forced out and was still best of friends with Gianni Paladini. “I ask you to get behind Gianni, Kevin, Ollie and the boys. I know that when we all pull together we are unstoppable,” he told the official website.

After spending all summer racking and stacking Olly started to shift out some of the fringe players. Marcus Bean moved out on loan to Swansea, Adam Miller was sent to Peterborough, Aaron Brown went to Cheltenham, Luke Townsend joined Northwood and Ryan Johnson Maidenhead.

Kevin Gallen missed his first game for over two years when Rangers traveled to face Southampton at St. Marys. Danny Shittu opened the scoring for the R’s but the game ended in a respectable 1-1 draw.

Mark Austin left the club after less than a year in his position as Commercial and Marketing Director.

A tetchy affair between Luton and Rangers at Loftus Road saw us take all three points thanks to a Lee Cook strike whilst Rob Husle scored the only goal of the game a few days later as Leeds beat us 1-0 at home.

Martin Rowlands’ injury woes continued, he tore his medial knee ligament and would be sidelined for six weeks.

Gianni Paladini confirmed himself as the new QPR Chairman taking over from stop gap Gualtiero Trucco.

"I hope now that after a period of instability we can all look forward to the brightest of futures at Loftus Road,” he said.

"We have a wonderful manager, an exciting and improving squad and a real opportunity to push for a place in the play-offs.”

Matthew Hislop made his QPR debut in an away game at Leicester but his man of the match performance was cut short when he was stretchered off with a suspected broken leg.

Rangers put in a fine performance to win the game 2-1 despite losing Paul Furlong to a red card.

Lloyd Dyer joined on loan from West Brom and made his debut at Millwall, with Ian Holloway deploying the left winger at left back, like a latter-day Tom(my) Williams. Rangers picked up a point from The New Den, thanks to Marc Nygaard’s second goal in two games.

Paladini ended the month at war with the Evening Standard over their claims that The FA were investigating the clubs financial dealings. Personally I was just stunned that The Standard had bothered to write anything about us at all, negative or not! "This is simply ridiculous and I am getting very tired with the agenda of other parties who have leaked information and who are clearly seeking to discredit me and the club for their own ends,” said Paladini, who eventually won an apology from the London rag.
