DOUBLE HEADER
Wednesday 13th May 2008
by Simon Skinner
And we’re off! Rangers
today announced the impending signings of Peter Ramage and Radek Cerny
as the squad strengthening starts in earnest. Whilst we have yet to hear
the name of the new manager (well through official channels at least) no
time has been wasted in adding quality to the playing staff.
Peter Ramage is a
Newcastle born defender and has been deployed all along the back four in
his time at the Toon. The 24 year old is likely to be used primarily as
a right back with Mancienne seemingly heading for a place in the Chelsea
first team squad, although he is equally adept in the middle. Having
missed the bulk of this season through injury he was given an emotional
farewell by Keggy Keegle on Sunday when he came on against Everton.
Newcastle wanted to keep him but his desire for first team football has
seen him leave his roots and head to W12. He will put pen to paper on a
three year deal.
Goalkeeper Radek Cerny
initially joined Spurs from Slavia Prague on an 18 month loan but this
was then rolled on until the end of this season. At 34 years of age he
should be at his keeping peak and he was the main beneficiary of Paul
Robinson’s fall from grace this season as he broke into the Tottenham
first team and made twenty appearances. Capped three times by the Czech
Republic, he joins a distinguished line of Czech stoppers to have plied
their trade at Loftus Road. He will ink a two year contract.
We wish both of them
the very best of luck in their careers at Rangers. |
