LOOKING TOWARDS NEXT SEASON: WHO'S IN AND WHO'S OUT?

Our annual look at how we think the squad might change over the summer, who's set to stay, who looks likely to leave and those that we're just not sure about.

Big decisions?

He’s lost his number one spot to Paul Jones but Roycey has shown how vital he can be and having two good keepers in the squad is a no brainer.

Injury has halted his chances this year, perhaps if he hadn’t been out of action then Phil Barnes, and later Paul Jones, might not have been signed but Jake is young, a decent prospect and has plenty of time to make an impact yet.

Hislop is another who was unfortunate with injuries this season. But he impressed on his debut and is a natural left back, something we’ve not been blessed with over the last few years. Next season could be a big one for him.

Highly rated youngster who’s already made ten reserve appearances despite only recently turning seventeen. Look for him to be working towards a pro deal next season.

Has been keeping Jake Cole out of the reserves side despite being two years his junior. Rated by the coaching staff as having a big future ahead of him he might be one to keep an eye on in years to come.

Big Pat has been out of action almost the entire season but he’s now back in training and has featured for the under 18’s as part of his comeback. I’d like to think he could add to his solitary first team start before the season is over.

Another young defender who has been dogged by injuries this season. Got a lot of stick early in the campaign after struggling during his first team appearances but hopes are high that, once fully recovered, he can make a big splash at Loftus Road.

In a disappointing season Wild Thing has been one of our few consistent performers, you know what you get from him, 200 percent effort and a never say die attitude. Whilst he is far from a silky smooth performer, he’s still a very useful weapon to have in your squad.

One of three of this years scholars to be offered pro deals, Stefan has made three first team appearances to date and will be hoping to add to that next season now the ink is dry on his new contract.

The most highly talked about youth prospect for many years, Scotty D looks as if he could go on to be a class midfielder for us. His size counts against him but his natural skill, usefulness in dead ball situations and love of a spectacular finish should outweigh that.

Although I don’t think we’ve found the ideal central midfield pairing for him yet, Lomas is a natural leader with bags of experience and it can only benefit the squad to have someone like him around next season.

Replacing Furs is still our biggest problem, we should have done it last summer and we failed so it must be addressed after this season ends. That said, whilst Furs’ legs might be starting to go, the veteran hitman deserves a farewell season even if it is one of cameo appearances when needed.

The skipper would have to be carried out in a wooden box before he leaves Loftus Road again. He is still one of the best footballers at the club and has suffered an unusual injury dogged campaign. Hopefully next season he’ll be back to full fitness and get a consistent run in one position.

What an enigma Nygaard is turning out to be, a giant of a man who knows where the net is but can’t seem to stay fit for more than a couple of weeks. If we can spend the summer getting him right physically we could be looking at a menace upfront.

I don’t think Danny’s had the best of seasons but he still has to be one of four players I think we could be in danger of losing if someone offers cash for them. I can see one of the promoted sides coming in for Dan and if the offer is good enough then we’re sure to accept.

How we’ve missed Rowly this season, both on the wings and in the centre of the park. The only silver lining is that his injury problems mean we’ll probably get another season out of him at least before any other clubs start sniffing around.

Say what you like about Bircham, but whenever he comes back into the side we look the better for it. He’s always said to have clubs interested in him and he’s been heavily linked with Sheffield United in the past, if they go up could Warnock take him the Premiership? Stranger things have happened.

Cookie’s young and still learning but over the last few months has looked a much improved player. He suffers from the fact that most of our attacking play involves Bignot and Ainsworth down the right and we

don’t get him the ball as much as we should so he comes looking for it in the middle. That said he has the second highest number of assists in the division and that’s something we can’t afford to lose. Wolves have been linked with him and, like most of our players, we couldn’t afford to turn a good offer down.

Poor old Biggy has been such a good servant for the club it’s hard to knock him but his form is slipping and the club looks like it is moving past him now. He’s got a year left on his contract and I expect he’ll see it out but for our own sakes we need to be looking for alternatives this summer.

Had a good run in the side under Waddock after failing to convince Olly of his usefulness but things have hardly improved. He’s cursed with a lack of pace and the turning circle of the QE2 but if anyone can move him forward as a player surely Macca can? Certainly worth working on.

Looked pretty sharp in pre-season, particularly in Ibiza but was all at sea during his two senior appearances this year. He’s been a regular in the reserves but hasn’t looked like getting a sniff of a first team return despite Biggy’s struggles which doesn’t say much for his future.

Such a shame but it looks like Doc’s days at Rangers might be numbered before they even really got going

In his first couple of games he looked like a great signing. Hard as nails but a decent passer, sort of like an anti-Birch, but things went downhill when his poor fitness caught up with him and injuries have wrecked his campaign. If we get a chance to move him on I think we’ll take it.

There’s definitely some talent under there somewhere but Moore looks to have had his confidence shot to pieces. He’s as quick as a hiccup but looks about as threatening as one too. If he comes back next season on the same form then he might benefit from a fresh start elsewhere.

Did anyone think Jones would be anything more than a stop gap until Simon Royce got fit? He’s come in and grabbed his chance with both hands (probably twice knowing the King of the double save!) and made the number one spot his own right now. He deserves a new deal.

Ryan hasn’t had a chance this season and with Kanyuka and Shimmin looking to progress next campaign plus Jonathan Munday stepping up from the under 18’s it looks like Jonno could be on the move in the summer.

Arguably Dan’s best foil at the back, Rose has never

been able to get a consistent run in the side due to bad luck with silly injuries. At most you get half a season out of him and if we could offer him half a contract I’m sure we would but, as we can’t, let’s give him another year and one final chance to have a decent run in the side.

Now I like Georges although I know I’m in a minority. I actually think he’s a fairly decent centre half and he’s as tough as a two quid steak! Granted he plays

like Bobby Moore one minute and Bobby Ball the next but football is about being entertained and you never know what you’re going to get with Santos! He’s suffered through being asked to play in all sorts of odd positions but he has never given anything less than his all and I’ll be sorry to see him go. OUT

Richard is another player whose future is so up in the air it could be decided over these last few games of the season. He fought tooth and nail to get back here but hasn’t been able to recapture his previous form.
People knocked Holloway for ignoring him but

now even Waddock is leaving him on the bench which suggests something is up. I hope he gets a run in the side and earns himself a new deal before the end of April. He was the last great prospect to come through our youth academy and it would be a shame to see all that potential get fulfilled elsewhere.

Here’s a lad full of potential and someone the club has spent a lot of time and effort to develop. He’s finally made his breakthrough to the first team and, whilst he didn’t pull up any trees, he didn’t disgrace
himself either and next season should be a massive

one for him. However now it seems he’s playing silly buggers with his contract whilst his peers have all been happy to sign and prove themselves in the future. If he puts pen to paper then his future could be rosy, if he walks away he could very well be the next Richard Pacquette. Up to you Shabba.

Luke was on his way out of the club this time last

year then, during a massive injury crisis, he got a couple of starts and impressed enough to be given another year. Then we went and signed a load more strikers and never gave him another shot. Seems a bit odd but when you see him stuck in midfield for the reserves you know the signs aren’t good.

Sammy came just a few weeks before we changed

manager, he’s had a few short appearances and hasn’t done all that bad but went off injured recently and he hasn’t got much time left to make an impression. I don’t think he’s done much wrong but hasn’t really done enough to justify him sticking around either.
