SEASON REVIEW: PLAYER OF THE SEASON VOTE

It's our final awards vote and this time we're asking you to choose the player of season. You've singled out eight players over the nine months of the monthly awards voting process and now you must choose one of these to succeed Paul Furlong as the QPRnet.com Player of the Season.

Chose the best

The trouble with a flaky season like the one we've had means the lack of consistency throughout the squad has left us with some slightly bizarre nominations, there are some players who had a good month and were never heard of again and then others, like Danny Shittu, who didn't win once.

Still the usual suspects are there and thems the rules so here are your 2006 player of the season nominations.

WINNER AUGUST 2005

If Tommy Doherty had had eight more months like August then he might actually be a contender, trouble is he didn't. Injury and fitness took it's toll and the Bristol Strangler ended the season transfer listed and on his way out of the club.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Tommy Doherty

WINNER September 2005

He may not be the most complete player to ever pull on The Hoops but nine goals in twenty starts is a decent return for a player who hasn't been at a hundred percent from the day we signed him. Here's an interesting fact only three of Nygaard's goals this season was meaningless to us in terms of points. Take away the other six and we would have been relegated.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Marc Nygaard

WINNER OCTOBER & DECEMBER 2005

Simon Royce has been slightly overshadowed by the arrival of Paul Jones in January but his contribution to the season has been immense. He almost single handed kept us in countless games and his performance at Pride Park this season was one of the best goalkeeping displays I've ever seen from an R's 'keeper.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Simon Royce

WINNER NOVEMBER 2005

Shabba began to make his mark on the first team towards the tail end of last year, he got his first goal after coming off the bench against Plymouth and his exuberance won him the November award. Since then things have gone a little south for him, his contract wrangles are well publicised and he seemed to hit a wall towards the end of the campaign.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Shabazz Baidoo

WINNER JANUARY 2006

One of the major favourites for the award, Gareth Ainsworth has been one of our few consistent performers over the whole season. Not the most skilful of footballers but his never say die attitude has proved invaluable time after time, the home game against Hull springs to mind, we were 2-0 down and Ainsworth's determination helped him to score twice and earn us an unlikely looking draw. He also ended the season captaining the side.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Gareth Ainsworth

WINNER FEBRUARY 2006

Like Tommy Doherty Steve Lomas is another player whose season has been dogged with injuries and we never really got to see the best of him. February was a good month for the ginger assassin though, he was excellent in all four games and won the man of the match award for his efforts during our 3-2 win against Sheffield United.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Steve Lomas

WINNER MARCH 2006

Like Simon Royce before him Paul Jones has saved us point after point. The King of the double save only joined us in February but has been named our man of the match three times in his fourteen games for his performances against Wolves and Stoke at home and Sheffield Wednesday away.

CHANCES OF WINNING

Paul Jones

WINNER APRIL 2006

Finally Lee Cook took a much deserved monthly award in April, 2006 really saw Cook start to find top form and, since taking over the managers chair, Gary Waddock really seems to have let him off the leash. In the final games of the season he was full of running and ideas and looked dangerous time after time. Let's hope we can hold onto him this summer because he is only going to improve.
