All of the monthly award winners are eligible for the goal of the season vote, there are three goals from Lee Cook, two from Gareth Ainsworth and single efforts from Marc Bircham, Kevin Gallen, Martin Rowlands and Paul Furlong to choose from. Here's a reminder of all of them, as described in Simon's match reports.
Marc Bircham v Sheffield United (H) "A hopeful ball into the box was headed clear by Morgan but the ball only went as far as Bircham who was lurking twenty five yards from goal. He allowed the ball to drop onto his thigh before he unleashed a cracking volley that left Paddy Kenny rooted to the spot as it crashed into the back of the net. It was a goal from the moment it left his foot and I apologise to the bloke sitting behind me as I was up celebrating long before it got near the net! "
Lee Cook v Luton (H) "Just before the hour mark Rangers took the lead thanks to Lee Cook. The former Watford man had looked a little tired for much of the game as he continued his comeback from injury. However, when Furlong won a freekick outside the box he was ready to take it. He stepped up and whipped a low curler past the wall and past the unsighted Beresford."
Kevin Gallen v Derby (A) "Santos set off on a buccaneering run through the heart of the Derby midfield before slipping a perfect ball into the path of Gallen. The skipper didn’t take a touch he just let his right foot flow through the ball and he sent a delicious curling shot past Poole into the far corner. The R’s support were delirious, I don’t think I have seen a goal celebrated like that since Hillsborough."
Lee Cook v
Reading (H) "There was little chance to do anything before the break but only minutes after it the sub made the equaliser. Ainsworth went on a typically forceful run down the right and cut inside. Gallen then got the ball and moved it onto Cook who struck a placed shot past Hahnemann and into the corner. In truth it was deserved given the balance of the play for much of the first half."
Martin Rowlands v Crewe (A) "With ten minutes of the half gone Rangers drew level thanks to a stunner from Martin Rowlands. Rowly picked up the ball and when he couldn’t find a pass he decided to have a bash himself. His right footed shot was swerving away from Turnbull and in truth he did well to get a hand to it. The placement was perfect though and the ball slammed into the top corner."
Gareth Ainsworth v
Leicester (H) "Ainsworth got the ball on the right and passed inside before carrying on into the box. The ball was fed out to Cook on the left and he sent in a precision cross that was met on the run by Ainsworth. His header was fierce and left Scotland keeper Rab Douglas clawing at thin air as it whistled past him. "
Paul Furlong v Sheffield United (A) "Cook launched yet another raid upfield and he once again fed the ball into the feet of Furlong. The ball looked perfect for the first time strike but he chose to take a touch. Morgan faced him so he shifted it and then slotted it across Kenny into the net. "
Gareth Ainsworth v Brighton (H) "There wasn’t long to wait though before Rangers did hit the front. Good work on the left saw the ball shifted to Cook and he curled a perfect cross toward the far post. Brighton seemed to be distracted by the presence of Nygaard and didn’t pick up Ainsworth charging in behind him. He nodded the ball home for his seventh of the season."
Lee Cook v Norwich (A) "Cook picked up the ball just inside the Norwich half and set off toward goal. He jinked past Hughes and then mugged Doherty before sending the ball past Gallacher from the edge of the box. The home fans were steaming now and the anti Worthington protests grew ever louder."
